01 · The work

Brands worth believing in.

I've spent more than 22 years building brands at agencies in Dallas. Most of my clients have something in common: they're trying to be a brand worth believing in — commercial, faith-based, cause-driven, sometimes all three. The work is mostly the same. Help them get clearer about what they actually promise, and then help them keep it.

02 · The belief

A brand is a promise.

I was raised to understand that a brand is a promise. The strongest brands in the world — secular or sacred, commercial or cause-driven — are the ones that make a clear promise, communicate it well, and keep it consistently over time. Most of what I do, day-to-day, is help organizations get clearer about what they actually promise the world, and then help them keep it.

03 · The person

Husband, dad, Jesus follower, builder.

Outside of work, I'm a husband, a dad, a Jesus follower, and the kind of person who runs his life like a chess match — three moves ahead, contingency on contingency.

I write about my failures at The Failist. And I try, mostly, to do work and live a life that tries to matter.

Latest venture

Stunt Double.

Senior operators who build a company’s in-house marketing team, write the go-to-market plan it runs on, and make the creative that carries it — then hand over the keys and leave.

Personal project

Us For Them.

A personal ministry to encourage Jesus followers to consider living kidney donation. More than 100,000 people in the U.S. are waiting for a kidney. Most will die before they get one.

Us For Them is built on a simple premise: living donation is a Jesus-like act, and churches are the natural home for the conversation. The site, the brand, and the person-by-person organizing are all in active development.

Devotionally Unstable.

An Instagram account that posts one objectively interesting, unusual, or surprising thing about the Bible every day. Not a devotional. Not a lesson. A finding, stated cleanly enough that someone with no stake in Scripture would still want to know it.
